My Story

Hello! I’m Julie, a Boston-based freelance writer, copywriter, researcher, and editor. Since 2012, I’ve written for more than 200 clients. Healthcare, technology, and higher education are my specialties.

I’ve also written about business services, digital marketing and e-commerce, legal services, finance and banking, consumer goods, home builders, real estate, industrial systems, manufacturing, hospitality, and much more, for SEO agencies, clients on content platforms, and directly for companies and organizations. I’m especially adept at SEO writing and optimized web content.

Much of my early work was for online stores, both B2C and B2B—product and service pages, brand profiles, FAQs, and Amazon product pages. Since then, I’ve written many blog posts and educational articles. I also provide editing, fact-checking, and proofreading services.

In addition, I’ve worn many hats for Boston-area colleges—content developer, content manager, writer, technical writer, editor, and proofreader. I was part of a small team that collaborated with developers to create interactive ‘story walls’ in a university visitor center, interviewing and writing about students on international co-ops, study programs, and volunteer service. I researched media to upload to the custom content management system and QA tested the screens.

For another university, after creating a site architecture and content inventory, I reviewed, edited, and moved the existing content to a new ExpressionEngine website, creating a user manual for future editors. I wrote process documentation for student financial services and restructured and edited a microsite, collaborating with marketing and student services. I’ve also proofread and fact-checked correspondence, ads, and other materials for enrollment marketing.

My degree is in technical communications, and I have a past life as a web developer. For several years, I published music reviews and band profiles, both for proper music blogs and my own quirky creative writing site, musingsfromboston.com. I’ve also written about mental health topics for Depression Army, dipping my toes into very murky waters that I’m now exploring more deeply.

I like delving into difficult topics to bring them out into the open and make them easier to understand. I also enjoy birds, reading, yoga, meditation, music, nature—oh, and did I mention birds? I’m currently writing a cheery memoir about incest, bipolar disorder, insecurity, substance abuse, escapism, and devotion.
